A lovely track by the river, great views all around East Lothian, over to the sea and the hills. Fairly steep ascent past Overhailes. Take care the paths can be a bit rough and muddy in wet weather.
Go down Mill Wynd, past the Linn and along Bridge Street under the railway bridge
After a few metres follow the signed footpath to Hailes Castle for a mile or so
Don't cross the wooden footpath, turn right and follow the lane up to the main road
Turn left, go to the back of the wood, through the wee gate and follow the path through the wood, past the lay-by and down the main road a wee bit (***watch out for Archers as there is a field archery course set out here***)
At the first gate turn left and follow the track downhill
After a few hundred metres turn right back down to East Linton (very small path) and under the railway tunnel - (mountain bikers may want to carry on a bit and turn left a bit further on, down a steep hill and follow the edge of the railway left to the tunnel)
Cross the park and go along Bank Road to return to The Square
