News from Dunpender Community Council for East Linton District Advertiser - September 2020
As we are still unable to meet we’ve continued to run the Community Council using emails and we’re now hoping to meet on October 1st - but that may change of course.
Things are beginning to get back in business thank goodness and our various village halls are starting to take bookings for a limited number of activities. Lots of local eateries have been taking part in the ‘Eat out to Help Out’ scheme and offering half price meals.
We’ve contributed £400 to Tyninghame Hall’s renovation fund and a new seat and bench will be installed on the cricket pitch there shortly. Barry will also be looking at repairs to the seat at the Rennie Memorial; Patricia Stephen at Phantassie has kindly included pointing of the stonework there in the work being done on her wall.
Work has begun on the Fountain - a new stronger pump has been fitted and the lamps have been taken away to be repaired. It will be repainted when the metalwork is mended.
Whitekirk residents have been successful in buying their Hall, a fantastic achievement. Two electric vehicle charging points are to be fitted near the Whitekirk phonebox, a new kerbside type which is compact and unobtrusive. These new residential ‘on-street’ types of charger will be used more in future and could be installed to supply EV charging at the north end of East Linton as they would not restrict the parking spaces. Ideas please for the streets where there are no driveways to park in and charge your car!
Allison has been taking part in numerous online meetings with ELC and other groups. She’s joined the Viridor Liaison group and the Dunbar Area Partnership (together with Barry and Danny).
We have objected to proposals to change the type of house in part of the Stewart Milne development for even larger models.
Our Treasurer has prepared our year-end accounts and had them signed off. We sent in some ideas to ELC’s Connected Economy Rural Recovery Subgroup; the issue of beach parking is one that we have strong views about as this has proved inadequate to say the least.
We’ve applied to the Spaces for People initiative and also the ELC Community Response, Recovery and Resilience Fund to run a trial of a one-way priority system for traffic at the Prestonkirk corner in a bid to make this pavement wide enough to pass each other safely. Let’s hope one of these funds will do the job. The Horticultural Society have done a great job this year, under difficult circumstances, to keep East Linton blooming. All the tubs and baskets have been a cheering sight in these dreary times; a big thank you to all concerned!
We still have a vacancy on the Community Council for someone living in the East Linton part of the ward. Contact us via the website or phone me on 01620 860380.
We hope our next meeting will be on 1st October in the Stables. Details will be on the website
