200 Club

Why and when was the 200 Club launched?

East Linton & District Community Association launched the 200 Club in July 1998 as part of the fund raising effort for the planned improvements to the Community Hall.  The new Hall was opened in September 2000 and it is proving to be a valuable amenity for the whole community.  The continued success of the 200 Club is an important part of the hall’s overall funding requirement particularly as we now have higher maintenance costs.

What is a 200 Club?

For those who have not come across one before, a ‘200 club’ is a regular lottery, which is usually run for some charitable purpose, in this case our Community Hall.  The Club is defined as a ‘private lottery’ under Schedule 11 of the Gambling Act 2005.

Please note, to join you must be over 18 and be a resident of East Linton and District i.e live within the EH40 postcode area.

Why should you join?

To help raise money for your Community Hall and because you will have a good chance of winning one of the monthly cash prizes; a much better chance than on the National Lottery!

What does it cost to join?

Each number in the monthly draw costs £5 per month and there is no limit to how many numbers you can buy.

How are Subs collected?

To keep things simple the monthly subscriptions are collected by bank standing order.

What are the Prizes?

Approximately half the money collected each month is given to the Hall funds and the rest is paid out in prizes. The monthly prize pot is currently £360 and the prizes are split as follows :-

1st Prize £200
2nd Prize  £100
3rd Prize  £ 50

If the membership numbers change significantly either upwards or downwards the prize structure will be amended accordingly.

When are draws made?

The prize draw takes place each month at an appropriate function in the Community Hall, in the Library or at the Community Council meeting in the Council Chambers.  The lucky winners receive their cheques in the post and a list of the winners is displayed in the Community Hall, the Post Office and the Library along with details of when and where the next draw is taking place.
